The excavated ruins and the surroundings of St. Nicholas church, which was situated on St. Nicholas hill in the one thousand year-old part of the city and was named after the patron saint of craftsmen and merchants, were opened to the public in May 2006. The findings of the tombs surrounding the church ruins give evidence that it was used as a burial place from the 10th century.
