Have you ever been to the ancient Mary shrine of Gödöllő-Máriabesnyő? The beautifully situated Máriabesnyő surrounded by forests, the Royal Palace of Gödöllő nearby and the neighbouring Lázár Horse riding Park provide unforgettable experiences to the visitors. The two-storey baroque devotional church is unique in Hungary and it is an interesting attraction along with the building of the monastery. The chapel of Besnyő, the undercroft and the church and the Capuchin monks' monastery was founded by count Antal Grassalkovich and his wife between 1761 and 1771. In the family crypt of the undercroft you can see their artistically made huge, marble sarcophagus. In the upper church you can see the copy of the statue of Mary of Loreto carved from black cedar wood, which was brought by Capuchin monks, who walked here from Loreto. The smallest devotional statue of Hungary (11 cm high and 4 cm wide) has made Máriabesnyő a famous place of pilgrimage. The statue was found under miraculous circumstances. You are welcome on our homepage where we provide detailed information on our annual programmes (open-air nativity play, May festival, wine tasting, fair, patronal feast programmes). We await every kind pilgrim and visitor with the love of Virgin Mary.
