The Museum was founded in 1908. The major parts of the collection were destroyed in World War II. The reorganization of the museum was commenced in 1964. Beyond the materials of the history of police and criminalistics, significant crimes are also introduced therein. On 19 June 2006 an exhibition on drog prevention called "Don't drug...!" was opened.

Permanent exhibitions: Gendarmerie and the police - historical living pictures, a unique exhibition called 'The polices of the World' presenting the unifoms of more than 100 countries, more than 1,000 police arm badges and badges, and an exhibition of local history.
