The museum was set up by Dr. h.c. Dr. Endre Nagy (born 1913, died 1994). As a bachelor of law Dr. Nagy succeeded in life as a master of the hunt and became a director of a zoo. Then he made some acquisition tours and finally he settled in Tanzania. In a few years he became the most well-known hunter of the country. In 1984 he brought home the majority of his hunting and ethnographical collection to the Balatonederics family mansion, which, surrounded by living animals, has been operated as a museum ever since.
