Other information:
A former basalt mine, in which you can see the inside of a volcano formed 5-6 million years ago. Visitors can walk in the volcanic crater, where multiangular, vertical columns can be seen, which are the basalt lava falls hardened after cooling. The stone columns of the at least 50 m high quarry wall are unique in Hungary, but they are considered very rare even in Europe. The typical formations of Balaton Uplands, how nature and man lives together, can be studied at the basalt cone of Hegyestű. There is an exhibition in the building near the unused basalt quarry on the natural values of the National Park, the basalt hills, other geological values of Balaton Uplands and the traditions of the manual quarrying of small cobblestones. With the help of the stone park presenting the typical rock types of Transdanubia you can take part in a geological time travel. Publications and souvenirs are available at the demonstration site. Special guidance is available presenting the natural values of Káli Basin: (+36 (87) 555-291).
