The town of 5,964 inhabitants is situated 7 km north of Tiszavasvári and about 10 km south of Tokaj on the bank of the river Tisza. The first barrage of the Tisza was built here between 1937 and 1959 and this is the staring point of the Eastern Main Channel dividing the Great Hungarian Plain into two parts. Near the barrage a 27ha park forest was established. The power plant can be visited on preliminary registration. The river Tisza is popular with anglers, who are the first to come and the last to leave at the end of the summer season, but you can see them on the river bank even in winter fishing in the holes cut in ice. Then come the holiday makers – two beaches are available for them at present as well as catering facilities on the river bank. The territory of the floodplain attracts horse riders, cyclists, campers as well as hunters.
