Tilaj is situated the same distance from Keszthely and Zalaegerszeg. A village with 246 inhabitants, consisting of two parts, Tilaj and Tilaújhegy. Its name probably refers to the verb 'tilt' (forbid). It was first mentioned in records in 1276. According to the legends the one-time inhabitants settled down here when they wanted to escape from the Turkish army. It is accessible from road No. 76, it is situated right next to the boating lake of Zalacsány. The village is surrounded by beautiful hills. The forests with acacias and pine trees with clean air await visitors who wish to relax or go hiking. Accommodation is provided in the Fogadó. Tilaj attracts more and more visitors from Hungary and abroad due to its beautiful surroundings.
