Village with 2,000 inhabitants in the northern part of county Fejér , a few kms from Tatabánya. The railway-line Budapest-Vienna passes through the village. It is unparalleled in Hungary yet, that six settlements, Gánt, Szár, Szárliget, Várgesztes, Vértessomló and Tatabánya provide protection for the northern hills in Vértes, where some 300 special plant and the same number of rare animal species live under the supervision of the Foundation called Pro Vértes. In the early 19th century Szárliget was a domain of the Eszterházy family of Tata. The church, consecrated in 1993, is an example of ambitions joined in a concerted action and a cooperation with the "honest artisanship".
