in Szalonna:   Sight

The village of 1,066 inhabitants in county Borsod is situated at the southern edge of the Szalonna hills, near the ravine of the river Bódva between the Rudabánya and Szalonna hills. It is situated along main road No. 27, 18 km north of Edelény. At the village border you can find lake Rakaca.
Its monument is the Calvinist church from the age of Árpád. The round church (rotunda) was built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, the square nave was added in the 14th and 15th centuries, which is reflected in the present form. In the altar you can see a fragment of a fresco depicting the legend of St. Margaret of Antiochia. On the triumphal arch pictures of the prophets can be seen from 1426 by András Szepesi. The impressive, neo-Classical Bónis-Gedeon mansion in the centre of the village was built in the 19th century and serves as an elementary school today.
