Sopronkövesd with its 1,250 inhabitants is situated on the western edge of Kisalföld. It was first mentioned in 1278 in Fejér Kódex. In 1677 the Széchenyi family became the landowner of the village. The single-aisled Classicist Roman Catholic parish-church from 1806, the statue of Saint Anthony of Padua from 1737 and the Baroque statue of Saint Francis of Assisi from 1712 are listed monuments. The monument of the victims of the two world wars is on the Main square. The village tourism based on the route connecting the western border and Lake Balaton is developing. |
