Small town with 3,100 inhabitants at the western foot of the Cserhát mountains on road No. 2., to the north of Vác, 25 km from Balassagyarmat. Its importance was due to its location. The road to the north from the capital led through the town. Two sights of the the town centre are the Roman Catholic church with onion-shaped dome. It was consecrated in 1729 and the Lutheran belfry from the 1600s. There is statue of the Holy Trinity in the park near the church, a memorial of the World War I. and a headboard which was erected at the millennium. There are possibilities of riding and angling in the town. |
