The village with 5,200 inhabitants is situated 32 km north-west of Nyíregyháza, right in the neighbourhood of Tokaj, at the meeting of the rivers Tisza and Bodrog. It is one of the oldest settlements of county Szabolcs-Szatmár. An important relic of archaeology and art history is the pair of discs from the age of the Hungarian conquest, found near the village in 1956. On the discs you can see a bird of prey with a leafy branch of the tree of life in its beak. The parish church of Rakamaz is an ancient monument, its religious books of register date back to 1729. The Calvary church of Rakamaz has been a place of pilgrimage recently. In the neat small church Greek orthodox and Roman Catholic Masses are also held.
