Pusztaszemes with 397 inhabitants is situated 10 km from Balatonföldvár, along the main road between Szántód and Kaposvár. It was first mentioned in the Middle ages, in the records of the papal tithes from 1332-37. In 1536 it was mentioned under the name Waralyazemes. It was also mentioned in the Turkish tax records, but later it became uninhabited. In 1778 the village was rebuilt by German settlers. The peaceful village with lake Balaton nearby has not been fully discovered by tourists yet. Its sights include the Roman Catholic church built in 1860 and the monument of the victims of World Wars I and II.
