in Palkonya:   Hotel

A single street village with 370 inhabitants in southern Baranya. The architectural heritage of the German vine-dressers settled here in the 17th century is still retained. A special sight in the village is the series of 53 wine-press houses, covering the hillside in the fields of the village. The small, whitewashed houses built at the beginning of the 19th century, the golden age of viticulture, still give a splendid view. More and more tourists visiting the Villány-Siklós Wine Road enjoy the fiery red wines and the hospitality of the masters. The round St. Elisabeth Catholic church, with its characteristic, red dome was built by the Batthyány family in 1816. The church is one of the most splendid examples of round churches in Hungary. The event attracting the most number of visitors to Palkonya is the "Whitsuntide Open Cellars" jointly organized by the population and the self-government on Whit Sunday. Visitors are welcome to the wine tasting festival organized a long with cultural events, programmes for children, pleasure riding by carriage and bacon frying.
