Town at the foot of Bükk Mountains on road No. 25, a few kilometres from the Slovakian border. The second largest town of the county with more than 40,000 inhabitants. It was given the rank of town on 1st January 1949. It is easily accessible on public roads or by rail. The countryside around the town, the hilly area with valleys and forests and the cultural relics offer many sights and programmes for the lovers of hiking and excursions. An important monument of the town is the Roman Catholic church of Szentsimon built in Romanesque style in the 13th century. Its painted wooden ceiling dates back to 1656. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk erected in 1830 is another monument in the part of the town called Sajóvárkony. The Town Museum in Gyár road presents the history of ironworking in Ózd, the archeological relics of the settlement and the mediaeval and modern history of the town. The open-air bath in the town with a camping site and a lake offers recreation for tourists in beautiful environment.
