Orgovány is situated in the region between the Danube and the Tisza, in the south of the sand ridges of Kiskunság, 26 km from Kecskemét. Its first relics date back to the 1st-2nd century A.D., but the settlement, which was depopulated during the Turkish times, was plain land until 1901, when it became an independent village. It has 3,586 inhabitants, 907 of whom live in the outskirts. According to legends, poet Sándor Petőfi was born in the inn of Orgovány and not in Szabadszállás.
