Murga belongs to the Tolna hills geographically together with 7 Hungarian and 22 German settlements. The name of the village probably originates from a personal name. It was mentioned in records in 1446 and in 1500. At that time it was called Marga and was owned by the Margai family. It has 98 inhabitants, a majority of whom are Lutheran , the others are Roman Catholic. Sights include: the Lutheran church built in 1795, the most valuable furnishing of which is the gallery railing painted in 1844 and the representation of Joseph II. and Márton Luther together. Its Roman Catholic church was consecrated in 1941. It is a two-street valley-village, a typical settlement of South-Transdanubia with 80-100-year-old houses with broken towers and cob walls. |
