With its 18,124 inhabitants the town, below the Bükk Mountains, next to national highway No. 3, is the capital city of the Land of the Matyó people. A major sight is the Roman Catholic church, a Baroque building attached to a 15th century Gothic sanctuary, with an altar-piece by Mihály Kovács. Other sights include the Matyó Museum, the Kisjankó Bori Memorial House, the Country House and the Museum of Agricultural Machines. The 71 degree Celsius water of the open-air bath is used in the treatment of locomotive disorders.
