in Levél:   Hotel

A village with 1,740 inhabitants on the Mosoni plain, 6 km from the Austrian and 15 km from the Slovakian border on national highway No. 10 between Mosonmagyaróvár and Hegyeshalom. It was first mentioned in German in a document made by the chapter of Bratislava in Kalthost in 1410. It is said that its name - Lővér - preserves the memory of the Pecheneg hedge guards and archers. In 1900 Levél got an international reputation due to the breeding of Siementhali cattle. This added a lot to the development of the village. The method of building development in an unbroken row in High Street (Fő utca) is reminiscent of the old German townscapes. In the centre of the village you can find a fishing lake with carps, grass carps, breams, crucians, pikes, pike-perches, tenches and bullheads. At the lake there are camping, barbecue facilities and toilets. Fishing is offered from sunrise to sunset, and on Fridays and Saturdays at night, too, as the lake is lit. The village has a folk choir, a dance group and an accordion band. There are two nature conservation areas in the vicinity: Szigetköz and Hanság. The beautiful nature, the rich waterworld, flora and fauna, the possibilites for fishing, hunting and riding attract a lot of visitors. An outstanding event is the horse riding days at Whitsun.
