in Lengyeltóti:   Hotel - Sight

Small town with 3,500 inhabitants in the Csalogány valley ('valley of nightingales'), the centre of the settlements in Pogány-völgy, 15 kms from both Fonyód and Balatonboglár. The artificial Kék lake hidden in a woody valley in the vicinity of the village is an independent tourist centre in spite of the closeness of Lake Balaton; it is both for bathers and the lovers of water-sports and angling. Church-hill of Lengyeltóti rises above the military road connecting Somogyvár (former county-seat) with Lake Balaton; it had been a spotting post for centuries. The calvary consisting of a nicely renovated church of 12th century origin and the colourful wooden statues placed in niches on both sides of the road running up to the church, provide a picturesque view. Walking up on the calvary we get to a church established in 1882-83, built to the small church (of Arpadian age) so the new edifice had become the nave, and a sanctuary had been established from the original part. Zichy mansion is an edifice of monument character, with protected plane-trees and yews in its park of 11 ha. Today the mansion is used as a hospital. Its role as a regional centre is very important. Its reasonable priced hotel, private accommodations, programmes and riding and tourist facilities await visitors.
