It is situated in the east of county Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, in the northern corner of the historical Great Cumania, near the Hortobágy. The village of 6,024 inhabitants is 16 km from Karcag. It can be reached on road No. 34, or by rail on the Karcag-Tiszafüred line. The village has been influenced by the characteristic features of the market towns of Great Cumania up to the present. The Calvinist religion has always been dominant here, this is shown by the large, fortress-like Calvinist church (Kálvin út 4.) built in the 18th century. A huge tower was attached to it, which has the characteristics of Baroque style, as the church was rebuilt in the 1860s. The chair, on which Lajos Kossuth was sitting when he was in Kunmadaras, is preserved here. In the east of the village, at 1 Bibó István street you can see a monument peasant house built at the end of the 18th century (Kossuth-house). Pictures of Kunmadaras |
