Village with 1,567 inhabitants to the southeast from the Mátra Mountains, on the highway No. 3. A great battle took place on 26-27th February 1849 between the troops of Windischgrätz and Dembinsky in the village and along with the Tarna, where the latter was defeated. The monument of the battle at Kápolna made by sculptor Sándor Sebestyén was erected in the vicinity of the old highway and the bridge over the Tarna in 1999, on the 150th anniversary of the great historic event. An obelisk was also erected in the last century in commemoration of the heroes.
