Small village with 640 inhabitants at the northern border of the country, at the foot of the Börzsöny Mountains, near Duna-Ipoly National Park. It has a significant past, it has been inhabited since Árpád's conquest of Hungary. It is the ancient nest of the Hont and Pázmány family, it used to be the one-time centre of Nagyhont county of the ancient Hungary. The ruins of the castle commemorating this were still there in the 1700s. The Roman Catholic church is from 1776, it was built with the help of Marie Therese's donation. An outstanding sight is the one-time ravine of Ancient Ipoly, which is very rich in geological remains. Coral remains and fossil shark teeth can also be found here. |
