Village with 2,850 inhabitants at the foot of the Mátra Mountains, 11 km west of Gyöngyös. It is a wine growing village in a picturesque environment. The unique sight in the village is the Romanesque-Gothic parish church from the 11th c. (subsequently rebuilt and extended several times) with the Jesse altar of national renown. Other interesting sights are the ruins of the Saint Peter church of archdeaconry (1010), the three-span Baroque bridge with a painted stone statue in the middle. The parish day is held on 8th September. Pictures of Gyöngyöspata |
