It is situated in the north-east corner of county Győr-Moson-Sopron, halfway between Győr and Komárom, along the Danube. It is surrounded by a nature conservation area with forests in the south, the region of the mouth of brooklet Bakony of Cuha rich in natutal beauties in the east. It is a popular station of water tours. The international port of Győr-Gönyű, which is still being extended, has contributed to the dynamic development of the village. It has more than 3.000 inhabitants. Gönyű celebrates the important events with the villages nearby including Markt Piesting in Austria and Kolozsnéma in Slovakia.
