The village is situated in North-east Hungary, in the valley of the river Hernád, 40 km from Miskolc. It was united with Abaújdevecser, Fügöd and Gibárt and became a town in 1984.
Architectural sights include an industrial monument, the water-power plant of Gibárt built 100 years ago, which still contributes to the power supply of the region. An interesting sight in Abaújdevecser is the Csoma mansion in a 1,8 ha park. In the near future a museum is to be built in the mansion.
The town offers cultural programmes and arts camps to the lovers of art in summer, while those who prefer active relaxation, can go hiking on the national blue-sign route, which runs across the town.
