The large village, lying in the plain bordered by the rivers Körös and Berettyó, has 9460 inhabitants. The first written document of the settlement dates back to the 1330s, its name was given in 1723. The building of the late Baroque Roman Catholic chuch is a historic monument. The crucial institution and centre of the cultural life of this large village is the library comprising of 33 thousand volumes and bearing the name of the poet Mihály Ladányi, born at Dévaványa. The largest bustard population in Central-Europe lives in the Dévaványa District of Landscape Conservation, where several other animal and plant species can be studied in their natural environment. Lovers of hunting are attracted by the small game population of national significance. Visitors can find perfect recreation in the recently modernized thermal and open-air baths offering various services to their guests.
