Town with 9,400 inhabitants 20 km south of Debrecen. The settlement, inhabited from 1291, became part of the Esterházy estate in 1702. Although it could not always retain its market town status of the Hajduk region, it was declared a town again in 1991. Sights include the Calvinist church, Roman Catholic church (late Baroque, 18th century) and parish. The Baptist Prayer House, the monuments of 1848 and the World War I and II and the Saint Stephen statue unveiled in memory of the Millennium in 2001 are worth seeing.
Outstanding events: Wine competition (in January), Music Days (end of May), equestrian contest and show (in August), Vintage Days (end of September).
