Darnózseli is located on the north-western part of the country, on the Small Plain in the centre of Szigetköz, 15 kms from Mosonmagyaróvár, 25 kms from Győr. The village with 1,600 inhabitants was first mentioned in documents in 1443. It was formed from two villages: Darnó and Zseli were united in 1934. The meaning of the first is 'grassy' the latter means 'with cabbage', which refers to the occupation of the people living here at that time. The church was built by countess Katalin Héderváry in the 1700s. The local Szigetköz Dance Group has become popular both in Hungary and abroad. Visitors can find all kinds of possibilities for entertaining and relaxation. The local folk traditions - the Nativity play at Christmas, the so called 'mendikálás', the sprinkling of girls at Easter, the Whitsuntide procession and the Maypole dance - are also parts of the variety of programmes.
