Bóbita Puppet Theatre was founded by director Lajos Kós in Pécs in 1961. Owing to its humorous, show-like performances for adults and children (Opera salad, A walk in the zoo), and to its non-verbal programmes based on instrumental rock music (Pink Floyd - Kalevala, Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Pictures at an exhibition), it soon became popular. It was the first provincial puppet group which was awarded an official puppet theatre status in 1981 as the puppet theatre section of the National Theatre of Pécs to recognize their outstanding achievement of two decades.
